The Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) is the world’s largest oil & gas show which attracts 100,000+ attendees and over 2,000 exhibitors. This year’s conference theme is “Forging Ties, Driving Growth”, which speaks to an industry that faces the challenge of continuing declines in oil prices. The discussion panels feature topics on reducing costs, maximizing production efficiency, and improving workforce safety compliance. While these are important topics, an outstanding question is how will energy ministers and industry executives translate their overarching goals into accountable action at all levels of their organizations? And how do these actions relate to how companies can better manage employee scheduling to drive these efficiencies?
After interviewing a number of oil and gas experts in the past couple of months, it’s clear there’s a growing disconnect between an executive’s higher-level goals and the workforce scheduling practices that are actually in use. Here are examples of the challenges and questions raised through our research:
The core challenge that was identified was how to provide visibility on whether goals are being met to all levels of an organization. And if not, how do you communicate to and empower the appropriate individuals to take the necessary actions? Petroleum executives often lack the insight on why targets get missed and struggle to predict whether they will stay on-target for their KPIs. On the other hand, production and operations managers face challenges in justifying their business decisions with data for missed targets. Employee schedulers also don’t understand the impact of their actions and don’t feel empowered to help.
Addressing this disconnect will be key for oil and gas professionals to realize their complex goals and ultimately outperform their competition. Because of this need, SchedulePro has been developing a solution to specifically address budget planning, goal tracking and analytics.
